Funding format: URBAN ARENA brings together heat providers and academia (in German only)

The new URBAN ARENA Seasonal Heat Storage funding scheme aims to bring municipal utilities and other heat providers together with researchers. More than 50 research institutions had indicated their interest following the first call. The first joint projects are to launch in January 2026. Find out more

Online workshop: “Machine learning meets hydrogen” (in German only)

The focus of the expert workshop on 20 November was placed on the question of how artificial intelligence can speed up the development of sustainable hydrogen technologies. 10th sectoral energy study by the Monopolies Commission (in German only)

The Monopolies Commission, an independent body advising the Federal Government on competition issues, presented its 2025 sectoral energy study to the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy on 4 November. The study offers recommendations for competition on the electricity market, the district heating market, in the field of the gas grids and on the establishment of charging infrastructure for electric mobility. International Energy Agency presents World Energy Outlook

The IEA published its annual report on the global energy market situation on 12 November. Thanks to its energy analyses and forecasts, the World Energy Outlook is regarded as a central indicator for policy-makers, businesses and investors. The latest edition warns governments that they need to further diversify their supply and engage in greater mutual cooperation. Find out more

System stability: commercial framework for inertial reserve now in place (in German only)

On 12 November 2025, the transmission system operators followed up on the publication of the technical requirements with an announcement of the fixed prices for the market-based procurement of inertial reserve, which will launch in January 2026,  This marks the attainment of a key milestone in the System Stability Roadmap, giving the market players a secure basis on which to plan. Renewables: report by the Federation-Länder Cooperation Committee published (in German only)

The report contains data from last year and current data for the first half of 2025 on the status of the roll-out of renewable energy and the status of the approvals issued for onshore wind turbines across Germany. This is useful not least for the monitoring of the site targets and the status of implementation of the Onshore Wind Energy Act in different parts of the country. Find out more

Coalition Committee: agreement reached on several measures for energy and businesses (in German only)

The coalition committee focused on energy and commerce on 13 November. The Federal Government reached agreement on several dossiers. Energy-intensive industry is to benefit from further relief via improvements in electricity price compensation and the introduction of an industrial electricity price. Federal Minister Reiche published a statement on this. Find out more

Hydrogen: Germany and the Czech Republic are stepping up their cooperation (In German only)

Germany and Czechia are intensifying their cooperation on the establishment of joint hydrogen infrastructure. Representatives of the two governments agreed on this in Berlin on 10 November. The cooperation is based on a joint declaration of intent signed on 25 April 2025 in which both countries underlined their commitment to building up hydrogen infrastructure in central Europe.
