An online seminar to be hosted by the ministry’s Energy Transition Dialogue and entitled ‘A practical approach to renewable energy in heat networks II’ will take place on 27 February, showcasing additional examples of using renewable energy sources for the decarbonisation of heating networks. The reform of the European Emissions Trading System, which came into force in 2023, can now be transposed German law. Companies in Germany that are subject to emissions trading will gain legal and planning certainty for the necessary CO₂ management. The reform will also ensure the functionality of the EU Emissions Trading System within Germany. Find out more
The Council of Experts on Climate Change has published its biennial report and submitted it to the Federal Government. The Council members see positive developments but also stress that additional efforts are needed to meet the climate targets. The current call for proposals focuses on innovative digital technologies and developments such as AI systems, digital twins, the integration of the Digital Product Passport into processes, or data platforms and data spaces. Companies of all sizes and sectors that make climate action, environmental protection, or adaptation to the climate crisis a strategic goal can join Klimaschutz-Unternehmen e.V. and become pioneers in corporate climate action. The application deadline for the current round is 31 August 2025. Find out more
The project by transmission system operators Energinet and 50Hertz combines power connections between Denmark and Germany based on offshore wind energy for the first time. The electricity generated is to be transmitted to Germany (2 GW) and the Danish mainland (1.2 GW) via new grid connections. Both countries are planning further joint offshore projects in the North Sea and Baltic Sea in the future. Find out more
