On 17 September, State Secretary Frank Wetzel will launch a dialogue with representatives from business, government, academia and other institutions on the topic of process heat. The aim is to show to all stakeholders what the challenges are and where exactly there is need for action. The Bundestag and Bundesrat adopted the Building Modernisation Act on 10 July. The most important element of the legislation is the creation of a technology-neutral framework in which building owners can once again decide for themselves which heating system is best suited for their building. The Centre of Expertise for Energy Efficiency through Digitalisation (KEDi) will run a roadshow in Mainz from18 to 19 August, demonstrating how digital technologies can further energy efficiency in buildings and advance industrial SMEs. The roadshow programme includes expert presentations, interactive workshops and the presentation of specific examples of application covering energy management, digital twins, smart meter and AI-driven processes. The Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy travelled to Kazakhstan on 29 and 30 June 2026, becoming the first incumbent to visit the country in 19 years. The visit focused on deepening the bilateral economic relations between the two countries. As a strategic partner, particularly in the energy and raw materials sectors, the Central Asian country can contribute to increasing Germany’s economic resilience and security of supply. The 13th BMWE Lightweighting Forum will take place on 27 August 2026 at the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) in Berlin, entitled “Advanced Manufacturing - Lightweighting as a Driver of Innovative Manufacturing Processes”. In addition to enabling more efficient and resource-saving processes, innovative production methods also create new possibilities for the engineering, design and optimisation of lightweight structures. The European Commission has approved the expansion of Germany’s electricity price compensation scheme. As a result, and retroactively for the billing year 2025, around 20 additional energy- and trade-intensive sectors are to receive relief on their electricity costs. At the same time, the aid intensity for companies that are already eligible for aid will increase. Find out more
