By notifying the European Commission of a deletion of emission certificates, the Federal Cabinet has ensured that the phase-out of coal has a positive effect on the climate. Whenever a coal-fired power plant is shut down, emissions of harmful CO2 emissions must be verifiably lowered. Deletion of the certificate ensures that certificates that are no longer being used cannot be passed on to other power plants or installations causing CO2 emissions. Find out more
