How can tenants play an active role in the planning of building modernisation work?
The Wärme4Alle/Heat4all research project was developed by researchers to support modernisation work in three housing complexes with a total number of 850 housing units in Bochum, Leipzig and Karlsruhe. Technical options such as district heating, heat pumps, solar PV and insulation are factored in – as are the ideas of the tenants living in these neighbourhoods.
The objective is to develop solutions that are socially compatible. A participatory process that could also be rolled out further is being tested. Workshops have turned out to have little effect – unlike information stands set up on the ground. At present, tenants can also use an online platform to submit their views.
“In the end, we are looking for a solution that works for everyone”, says project leader Dr Markus Fritz from Fraunhofer ISI.
