A new digital register for less red tape and faster connection procedures
As of 10 September 2025, 1,592 certificates and 9,904 units were registered in the new digital register ZEREZ. Since 1 February 2025, power generation plants and storage systems may only be connected to the grid if they have a valid registration number. Individual certificates can cover multiple devices (“family certificates”).
The obligation to issue unit and component certificates has been in place for some time and is intended to ensure that all plants are grid-compliant, i.e., can be connected and operated safely – including installed generation units and critical components.
Many benefits for grid and plant operators, as well as a secure power supply
The new register brings benefits for grid operators, plant operators, and the security of the power supply, as for the first time, it is possible to centrally view which units and components are available for use. Around two dozen certification bodies and manufacturers can upload documents and verify them more quickly. Each certificate receives a ZEREZ ID, which significantly simplifies communications between plant and grid operators: instead of extensive data sets, the ID is sufficient, which significantly accelerates connection procedures.
