In 2025, twelve municipalities were added to the list of “Energy Municipalities”. Now one of them will become Germany’s “Energy Municipality of the year”. All citizens can take part and vote for their favourite municipality up until 31 January. On 26 February, the title of “Energy Municipality of the year” for 2025 will be awarded publicly. On 15 December 2025, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy published its “Bidding Zone Action Plan” in response to a study by ENTSO-E, which had recommended Germany to split its electricity bidding zone into five parts. By maintaining the single bidding zone, Germany will continue to ensure a uniform electricity exchange price. Find out more
Under the project led by company Vulcan Energy, lithium hydroxide monohydrate (LHM) will be produced from geothermal brine. LHM is is hailed as key ingredient for the production of batteries, and the project also generates heat and electricity from renewable energy. It is the first project to be funded under the Federal Government’s Raw Materials Fund and seeks to diversify critical raw materials supply chains and make these more sustainable. Find out more
