iwr.de, 11 June 2026: “IEA: Battery storage is becoming a central pillar of modern power systems”
The expansion of battery storage reached a new record in 2025. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), 108 gigawatts (GW) of battery storage capacity were newly installed worldwide last year, the International Economic Forum for Renewable Energies (IWR) reported. This is around 40 per cent more than in 2024.
tagesschau.de, 18 May 2026: “Germany exports more electricity again”
For the first time since 2023, Germany is once again exporting more electricity than it imports. The broadcaster reports this in its online edition. The reason given is lower wholesale prices. Renewable energy accounted for the largest share of exports.
zeit.de, 9 June 2026: “EU allows further relief for industry on electricity prices”
According to Federal Minister Katherina Reiche, the EU has allowed the German government to provide greater support to companies to help with electricity costs. According to the weekly Die Zeit, this would cost the Federation around one billion euros.
