As part of its 8th Energy Research Programme for Applied Energy Research – Research Missions for the Energy Transition, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy will provide funding for accompanying research for “mission hydrogen’, so that findings from hydrogen research can be applied in a meaningful way. Universities, non-university research institutions and other qualified institutions can apply for funding by filing their application, complete with project outlines, via the ‘easy online’ system by 30 September (8:00 p.m.). At the beginning of September, the Federal Government adopted two bills presented by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. The Act to optimise and ensure the expansion of offshore wind energy will pave the way for the next phase in the development of offshore wind energy. The revision of the Offshore Wind Energy Act responds to changes in the market environment and focuses on cost efficiency across the entire system. Parallel to this, draft legislation was adopted on the annual grants provided to the transmission system operators so as to reduce the electricity bills for households and companies up to 2029. The European Commission has approved the ad-hoc capacity mechanism rooted in the the Electricity Supply Security and Capacity Act under the EU State aid rules. As a result, the auctions for the construction of new capacities in accordance with that Act have been able to go ahead as planned. The first bidding round ended on 8 September. As from 2031, a capacity mechanism is to ensure that sufficient installations for electricity generation are built and kept operational. Find out more
The KOVER research project uses a combination of scientific modelling, practical experience and digital tools to identify risks before these risks slow down the implementation of municipal heat plans. Two new loan programmes under the Deutschlandfonds started at the beginning of August: the ‘investment loan for energy supply’ and the ‘KfW syndicated loan for energy supply’. The federation is providing guarantees worth €16.4 billion to KfW for this purpose. Overall, this could enable up to €41 billion worth of loans to be taken out over the next ten years.
