Federal Funding for Industry and Climate Action (BIK) launches third funding round

Green tech and production processes are driving the energy transition in industry. The Federal Funding for Industry and Climate Action is supporting relevant research and development projects. A new funding round is starting now.

The latest funding call of the Federal Funding for Industry and Climate Action (IBK) allows the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy to once again support companies in developing climate-friendly technology and production processes. The spotlight is on research and development projects for decarbonising industry and innovative solutions for carbon capture, use and storage.

Under module 1, the BIK is funding technologies and processes for bringing industrial greenhouse gas emissions to as close to zero as possible. Module 2 aims at areas with emissions that are difficult to prevent and supports carbon capture and utilisation (CCU) and carbon capture and storage (CCS). Project outlines can be submitted from 19 October to 6 December 2026.

Research for climate-friendly industry

Module 1 funds innovative research and development projects by industrial companies based in Germany with plans to invest in considerably reducing the CO2 emissions of their industrial processes and do their part for greenhouse gas neutrality.
Industrial research, experimental development and project-based feasibility studies are eligible for funding. The funding can help companies develop new or significantly enhanced products and innovative processes, implement prototypes and pilot projects and test new technologies under conditions close to real deployment.

New approaches to CCU, CCS and direct air capture

Modul 2 supports innovation projects, in this case applied research and development projects on carbon capture, use and storage in sectors where emissions are difficult to prevent. These include the cement and lime industries, the basic chemicals industry, the glass and ceramics industries and thermal waste treatment.

Initial projects reflect the range of decarbonisation solutions

The projects from the first funding round demonstrate how the BIK promotes innovations and investments. Project profiles from both modules are available to gain insight into the goals, technologies and planned climate impacts of the funded projects.
The broad spectrum includes innovative production processes and technologies, decarbonisation via new green installations and carbon capture and utilisation solutions.
